Today I have a fun boy birthday card for you. I especially love how the sky turned out on this card!
This project started out with a piece of white card stock, in the right size, that I planned to make the sky-background on. After finishing the sky my left hand was almost as blue as the sky but fortunately distress inks react well with water!
Working on my Ranger Craft Sheet I started adding ink to the white piece of card stock from the middle outwards with my lightest colour, which is Distress Ink "Blueprint Sketch", but you can use any vivid, bright blue you have. From the inside outwards I added colour and faded out towards the edges. When my first layer was on I started from the outside inwards with Distress Ink "Chipped Sapphire" which is one of my most used blue inks. I added layers with both colours until I was happy with the intensity of the colours and how the colours faded into each other.
Then I needed to wash my hands and let this piece sit and dry.
In the meantime I started working on the cute critters sitting on the moon. This is a stamp from Nellie's Choice in the "Koetie" (means Cowie in Dutch) -range. I stamped the image on Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface paper with Versafine "Onyx Black" ink and heat embossing with clear embossing powder. I like the raised edge and shine this gives and my ink stays crisp and black even if put on a lot of water. Then I started colouring with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and my Pentel Water Brush.
Since there is a lot of white space in the cow and the moon I added shadows and dimension with light grey and blue-grey colours. After drying I cut the image and the separate stars out by hand with my Fiskars scissors. I added some "Clear" Wink of Stella to all the stars.
Because the critters are looking up I thought it would be fun to have the sentiment on the right hand top corner, but I didn't wanted to distract to much from the image itself. I choose some shiny dark blue card stock in about the same colour as my sky and die cut the words "Hartelijk Gefeliciteerd" (which is Dutch for Happy Birthday) with the Crealies Tekststanzen CLTS 01 and CLTS 24.
I was also planning on working the name of the boy whom this card is for into the card to make it extra special ("Mats" is the name of the boy). From the smallest die in the MFT "Stitched Circle STAX" I cut as many circles as I needed letters. To make them a little less bright I put Distress Ink "Antique Linen" around the edges and stamped the letters (from a clear alphabet stamp set I bought on Etsy) in the circles.
Then it was time to put the card together: I put the moon with the critters and the letter-circles on with foam tape to give this card a bit more dimension, and the other stars and the sentiment with Ranger Medium Matte.
To finish the front of this card I put on little white dots with my Gelly Roll Pen to make it more into a starry background.
I matted this piece on a craft coloured piece of card stock that is a little bigger then the night sky background. That piece I also adhered to the white card-base with foam tape.
And that finishes this card for today.
