Purple Onion Designs with Salt & Watercolour background

Purple Onion Designs Garden Bug Birch Balloon Trio Winnie and Walter Wishes die LOTV Handwritten Phrases

Hi, everyone! Today I have part three of my mini-series for you where I create two cards with pre-made salt and watercolour paint backgrounds. You can find parts one and two of this series here (http://www.makeyourlifecolourful.com/single-post/2017/01/21/Vintage-looking-card-with-salt-watercolour-background) and here (http://www.makeyourlifecolourful.com/single-post/2017/01/22/Silhouette-Flower-card-with-Salt-Watercolour-background).

Tomorrow I’ll post the last part in this mini-series where I explain how I made the backgrounds for the cards in this mini-series in case you’re not familiar with this fun salt and watercolour technique. Note: you can find this "How to"- post here:

http://www.makeyourlifecolourful.com/single-post/2017/01/24/How-to-Salt-Watercolour-Background

To create today’s backgrounds I used salt and the numbers 43 and 51 from my Gansai Tambi 36 watercolour set. After removing the salt I cut the piece the size I wanted with my Crea-Nest-Lies XXL stitched dies. I felt that a dark orange would work great with the bright yellow and green I had going on so I cut a piece for my background, that’s slightly larger then the watercolour piece, with the regular Crea-Nest-Lies XXL dies. I edged a little with Distress Ink in the colour “Rusty Hinge” and after die-cutting the word “wishes” with the Winnie & Walter In a Word “Wishes Cutaway” die I also applied this rusty distress colour where the letters show to create a bit more contrast.

I felt that this bright background was asking for some cute critters so I took out my collection of Purple Onion Designs (POD) stamps. The stamps I used are all designed by Stacey Yacula. I stamped with Memento “Tuxedo Black” ink because I knew I wanted to use Copic Markers. I wanted to incorporate yellow, green and orange so I choose the Copics I could use on this card with my filled in Hex Chart from Sandy Allnock. I only have two oranges at this moment so I tried mixing them with dark yellows, that didn’t work out one hundred percent but from a distance it’s not too obvious (I did ad an additional orange Copic marker to my Copic-wishlist though).

For the first card I used the following POD-stamps: “Birch” (bunny), “Balloon Trio” (that comes together with the “Streamer” in a set) and the snail from the “Garden Bugs” set.

This is the list of Copic colours I used:

E50 / E42 / E11 / E13 / E19 / E29

Y000 / Y08 / Y11

G40 / YG06 / YG17 / G94

YR14 / YR18

R00

W1 and W3

and I also used a Edding gold gel roller pen and a Uni-Ball Signo white pen.

Then I let the images sit and dry.

In the meantime I stamped the words “Sending” and “Birthday” from the same LOTV stamps set I used on yesterday’s card (“Handwritten Phrases”) with Versafine “Onyx Black” ink and my Misti (the salt leaves a little bit of texture on the watercolour paper so I stamped twice to make the words dark enough for my liking, but you don’t need to do that to get a legible print).

After colouring and drying the critters I fussy cut them all out with my Fiskars scissors. The strings of the balloons were a little too long so I cut the middle one a little shorter. And I also cut the strings in two behind the bunny’s head so that the smallest part fitted through the slit between his hand and his head. Then I pieces everything back together. I glued all the images on with some 3D-kit (so that they are a little raised from the base card).

And that finishes the first card for today.

For the second card I used the same Copic colours and instead of the bunny I used “Oliver”, also from POD. Here I also had to cut all the strings from the balloons to make them shorter and I cut of the piece where the knot off strings was and glued the two pieces back on beneath and above his little hand.

I made a little mistake when I glued the loose pieces of the letters from the “Wishes” word die back in: I put in the entire word and glued the missing pieces in, then popped the wishes word back out. That’s a little trick to get every piece in the right spot (it should fit like a puzzle). BUT I also glued in the dot from the “i” and when I discovered my mistake it would not come out again (you know, glued on with Ranger Medium Matte and all!). I was able to take half of the paper out which left me with a white piece of paper that was still stuck. Fortunately I have some orange rhinestones in my stash that exactly fitted the dot! If you don’t tell anyone, nobody will ever know that the rhinestone wasn't planned there!

These critters are just too cute, don’t you think?
