Metallic Birthday Card

Red Rubber Stamp Motorcycle Memory Box Mini Gears Gilding Wax Stampendous Fran-Tage Aged Bronze

Hi everyone! Today I have a metallic guy card for you all.

I love to use different textures on the backgrounds of my guy cards to create something interesting for the eye to look at, especially when the rest of the card is kept fairly simple. I started this card with some dark turquoise (leaning to green) card stock that I cut to the right size with a square Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die and embossed with an embossing folder with a metal plate design (unknown brand, you can use whatever you have in your stash that fits the theme you’re going for) and my Big Shot. Then I took my gilding wax and used it sort of randomly on the embossed parts with my fingers. First I used the darkest colour Treasure Gold in “Onyxite” (which is a bronzy/coppery colour) and after that the lighter Treasure “Pewter” (which is a warm silver colour). With these gilding waxes it looks better when you use two or three colours on one card (I only have two at the moment so that’s what I used). They are not cheap but they last you a very long time because you only need a little tiny bit for one card. I also put some wax on the edges. This wax creates a gorgeous metallic shine on your card stock.

I knew I wanted to use a Deep Red stamp called “Motorcycle” to be the vocal point of this card so next I stamped this motorcycle on crème coloured card stock with Versafine “Vintage Sepia” ink and my Misti (about three times, then it was dark enough to my liking). I cut the image with a My Favorite Things Die-namics Stitched Rectangle Stax die and and edged with the same colour of ink.

To create a more roughed look I heat embossed some Stampendous Fran-Táge “Aged Bronze” embossing enamel around the motorcycle and also on the turquoise piece. I matted both the turquoise piece and the motorcycle piece on some black card stock.

I still felt that this card was missing something. After thinking about it I looked through my brown card stock and found this warm brown piece that I embossed with my Big Shot and the Stampin’Up “Arrows” Textured Impressions embossing folder and then tried to randomly tear the card stock to make a suitable shape for behind the motorcycle piece. Truth be told, I’m not got at random, with random you don’t have control and I like control, so this was, for me, the hardest part of making this card! I have the same problem with splattering on my cards, I don’t have control over the splatters, but I really want to! But, after working the paper for a while I managed ending up with a piece that I really liked. I tried to tear towards me to get a nice frayed edge. Then I took the gilding was again and applied it to this piece as well.

Then I started putting the card together: I glued the turquoise piece to the black mat with liquid glue. I used one millimetre thick foam tape between the square turquoise/black piece and the crème coloured card base (that I edged with Distress Ink “Antique Linen” and Versafine “Vintage Sepia”). I glued the rectangle motorcycle/black piece to the brown embossed piece and then together with one millimetre foam tape to the turquoise piece.

As a finishing touch I die cut some gears from the Memory Box “Mini Gears” set and treated them with the gilding wax and then glued them on the card with Ranger Medium Matte.

On the inside of the card I stamped a sentiment from the Kaisercraft “Scrap Yard” stamp set saying “Make each day your masterpiece”. I choose that sentiment mostly because the letter-type fitted the design I was going for. Later I’ll handwrite a personal message for the recipient under that.
