Calender Month Series - March

Whimsy stamps Maya Bruynzeel coloured pencils hero arts Etched Bouquet

A little late, but here is my next page for my Calender Month Series and off course this is March! If you don’t know what this Series is about then you can check out my January post here ( http://www.makeyourlifecolourful.com/single-post/2017/01/16/Calender-Month-Series---January) or my February post here (http://www.makeyourlifecolourful.com/single-post/2017/02/23/Calender-Month-Series---February).

This month’s pre-set page gives me a light crème colour and a nice middle dark purple colour to work with, so I figured I could do a more pastel toned page this month (I guess I’m also inspired by all the Easter cards you see a lot at the moment).

Whimsy Stamps Maya

I started this page by stamping Whimsy Stamps cute fairy “Maya” on Strathmore 400 Series Medium Surface “Drawing” paper with Versafine “Onyx Black” ink and my MISTI (to get a good impression). I coloured her with my Bruynzeel coloured pencils (a cheap Dutch brand, you can use what ever coloured pencils you have). I used a lighter and a darker pink, a lighter and a darker purple, a crème colour, a pastel green with a matching darker green, a skin colour and some brown tones for her hair (these pencils don’t come with names or numbers on them). I also put some Stickles in the colour “Diamond” on her wings with an old paint brush (like I always do with fairies, it’s such a great finishing touch).

After the colouring was finished I cut the image with a square Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die and edged the square with Distress Ink in the colour “Picked Raspberry”. Next I started working on my background. I don’t know why but I felt that the cloud stencil (“Mask Art A6 Clouds”) from Dutch Doobadoo might fit here nicely. So I die cut a piece of purple card stock in about the right colour and used the stencil on it together with some Hero Arts “Unicorn” white pigment ink that I applied with a foam applicator tool and dried with my heat tool afterwards (because pigment ink stays wet for a long time). I edged this rectangle with Memento’s “Grape Jelly” ink (to make it stand out more).

I also wanted to bring in a bit more pink and for this I stamped Hero Arts “Etched Bouquet” background stamp on a piece of light pink card stock with Versamark ink and clear heat embossed, this gives a gorgeous tone on tone look. I sparingly edged this piece with the same Picked Raspberry ink after cutting it too the right size by hand.

To bring everything together I cut a piece of 15 x 19 centimetres of a light green marbled piece of card stock and edged with Distress Ink in the colour “Cracked Pistachio” and I also cut a square from a piece of plaid patterned paper from my stash with the same colours that I already had going for this project (also edged with Cracked Pistachio).

I looked through my stash and found these gorgeous light gold coloured metal sort of circle paperclips that I thought looked nice with this project and also some matching pink ribbon (I felt this piece needed a bow somehow).

Then it’s time to put this page together: I glued the plaid piece to the coloured image with liquid glue. I glued the big green piece to the calender with liquid glue and also used liquid glue for the pink piece (after putting on the light gold coloured embellishment from my stash). I used one millimetre thick foam tape to adhere the purple cloud piece to my project and and also some foam take ta adhere the fairy.

And as a finishing touch I used some sequins: Pretty Pink Posh “Sparkling Clear” and “Iridescent Lavender Moon” sequins and some Cartwright’s Sequins in “Satin Pearl”. I adhered the sequins with Ranger Medium Matte.
