Calender Month Series - May

Whimsy Stamps Spring Bringer

Hi everyone, today I have the fifth instalment of my Calender Month Series for you all! This page is featuring the page for the month May, which is my own birthday month. If you don’t know what this Series is about then you can find the first four posts for this series at the end of this post (go to the page for “January” or “February” where I explain more about what this Series is about!).

The colours given for this page are a sort of periwinkle blue and a medium to dark pink.

So, to start this project I stamped Whimsy Stamps “Spring Bringer” onto some Copic friendly paper with Memento “Tuxedo Black” ink and started colouring.

I used the following Copic (Sketch) markers:

Skin: E000 and R00;

Hair: E50/ E13 / E17 / E27;

Pink: RV02 / RV11 / RV06 / RV19 / RV10;

Blue: B0000 / B91 / B95;

Purple: V20 / BV11 / V17;

Other colours: 0 / E21 / E26 / E42 / E55 / Y08 / G40 / YG17 / Y26 and G94.

There was a stage, when I was working with the yellow around the image (because I didn’t wanted to use light blue because off the periwinkle blue colours that where already there), that I thought this wasn’t going to end well but in the end I added Y26 (Mustard) and that seemed to work out okay: maybe not a traditional background colour but this way I added a third main colour to work with in my project background and it didn’t clash with the periwinkle blue.

After all the colouring was done I die cut a rectangle around the image with the largest die in the My Favorite Things “Stitched Rectangle STAX” die set and I went around the edges of this panel with the same Y26 Copic colour. Next I matted this cute fairy onto some matching pink card stock with liquid glue, cut around by hand leaving some space and edging this piece with Distress Ink in the colour “Picked Raspberry”.

Then it was time to start working on the background: I cut a piece of periwinkle blue card stock, slightly darker then the calender page I was working on. Then I punched a strip from some matching mustard yellow card stock with my EK Success “Scroll Pattern” punch, edging this piece with Distress Ink in the colour “Wild Honey” and matting this on the same pink card stock that I edged with the same pink ink as used before. This combined strip I wrapped around the periwinkle piece and adhered to the back with regular tape. The periwinkle piece with the strip I adhered to my calender page with one millimetre tick foam tape and then I adhered the fairy with on top, also with one millimetre thick foam tape.

For my next step I punched several flowers in different sizes and colours with a “Floral Punch” set (these punches come in sets: one punch of the set punches the flower and the other punch in the set created the dimension and the ridges in the flower). I edged all the flowers with the ink colours as used before and for the purple I additionally used Memento’s “Elderberry” ink. I then adhered two flowers with the same size, made from different colours of card stock in the same colour family, to each other with 3D kit and set them aside to dry.

In the meantime I started working on the butterflies: I die cut a couple of butterflies from so pink glitter paper and some vellum with the butterflies in the Joy Crafts “6002/0322” die set, adhering the vellum butterflies to the glitter butterflies with Ranger Medium Matte and setting them aside to dry.

Then I started adhering all the elements that I created to the page in a pattern that appealed to me. This was so much fun to do! : finding the right place for each element takes a bit of time but it is so rewarding when everything comes together.

Now that the flowers and the butterflies are all adhered I put on some Nuvo Crystal Drops in the colour “Golden Sunset” over all the flower hearts and some Stickles in the colour “Diamond” over the body of the butterflies and also over the wings of the fairy (for the fairy I used a small brush to apply the Stickles).

At this stage I felt something was missing so for my finishing touch I used some Pretty Pink Posh “Sparkling Clear” sequins in different sizes to ad a little more bling. After all this is my own birthday month and that deserves a bit of extra sparkle!

And that finishes this month’s fun and flowery page for the Calender Month Series!
