Leafs and Stripes

Winnie & Walter The Leaf Effect Winnie & Walter The Big, The Bold & Happy Mama Elephant Birthday

Today I have a set of fun cards for you without any colouring work: these are top folding cards for which I almost exclusively used dies.

To start my first card I taped 2 rows of Elizabeth Craft Designs double sided tape (each 6,5 centimetre wide) to regular typing paper and started putting on strips of coloured paper in five different colours.

After I finished the entire piece I die cut the Winnie & Walter “The Leaf Effect” cutaway out of the handmade striped patterned paper. This die is slightly bigger then the front panel of a normal rectangular (European) sized card that I used, so, next I die cut my front panel from some olive green linen textured card stock and (after working a bit on my second card for today, which I will explain later on) glued the Leaf Effect die cut to the olive green panel. Everything hanging of the side I cut away with my scissors. Then I adhered the combined striped and olive green panels to a crème coloured and pearlescent top folding card base with one millimetre thick foam tape.

For my sentiment I used the Mama Elephant “Birthday” die and die cut it twice: once from the same crème coloured pearlescent card stock that I used as my card base and once out of some lightly shimmery bordeaux red linen textured card stock and adhered them together to the card with Ranger Medium Matte slightly of setting them. Then I heat embossed one of the sentiments from the Winnie & Walter “The Big, The Bold & Party” stamp set, saying “happy”onto some black card stock with WOW! “Opaque Vanilla White” embossing powder, cutting the black card stock to the right size and adhering it under the die cut sentiment with the same glue as used before.

And to finish this first card I glued on some Pretty Pink Posh “Sparkling Clear” sequins in different sizes with Ranger Medium Matte.

For my second card I started of at the point where I die cut the Leaf Effect Cutaway for the first card and before I adhered the panel with glue to the olive green panel. I die cut a different olive green panel and temporarily adhered the big striped panel to the olive green panel with removable tape. Then I started glueing in all the cut out “leaves” by inserting them in the right spot with a little glue on the back. After I glued on all the pieces I removed the tape and took away the big striped panel. Then I finished my first card and started working on this card again.

I adhered the leaves and olive green panel to a crème coloured pearlescent top folding card base with one millimetre thick foam tape and then started working on the sentiment. I die cut the Mama Elephant “Happy” die from the same colours of card stock as I used for my first card and adhered them slightly of set to the card. The glueing unfortunately was a little messy (it seeped out of the sides and stayed very dark after drying, I grabbed the wrong glue in hindsight) and I almost throw away this card but I figured when it was lost I could try something different to see if it would work and it did: I mixed some Perfect Pearls in the colour “Biscotti” with water and sprayed it on and that saved this card! To finish this second card I created the “birthday” sentiment the same way I did with the first card and foam taped that on to create a bit more dimension.

Then I had left a strip of the handmade striped piece that I just didn’t wanted to throw away, so I die cut a nice piece of it with one of my rectangle Crea-Nest-Lies XXL dies and also another olive green linen textured panel and adhered the striped piece to that with one millimetre thick foam tape.Next I splattered on some FineTec Pearlcolor in “Golden Orange” and sat it aside to dry.

After drying I hand cut a strip of vellum slightly smaller then the striped panel and taped it to the back of the olive green panel with regular tape. Then I foam taped the olive green panel to a crème coloured pearlescent top folding card base with one millimetre thick foam tape and finished this card with some nice matching sequins (Pretty Pink Posh “Sparkling Clear”, Cartwright’s Sequins “Light Coral” and some sequins from my stash).

And that finishes today’s cards! I hope you enjoyed!
