Yes, you read that right, I made a Christmas card today! Usually I start with Christmas cards after the summer holidays, but I was colouring this image yesterday evening and she wanted to be a Christmas card! So, I had no choice! This cute digital image is from The Paper Shelter and she is called “Cozy Winter Wishes”.
I printed her on regular printer paper and coloured her with my Faber Castell Polychromos. I used the following colours: 132, 189,219, 225, 166, 165, 172, 186, 188, 187, 176, 283, 175, 231, 232, 199 and 147. After I finished colouring the image I die cut around her using a square Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die in the size I wanted. I also die cut a slightly larger stitched square from some Christmassy green linen textured card stock.
Since this image is fairly large, I wanted to keep the rest of the card quite simple. So, I choose for a matching red, linen textured card base, a green mat made from the same card stock as I used before and I die cut a white square from some slightly shimmery white card stock. The white square went through my Big Shot with a Marianne Design embossing folder with number DF3420 which features snowflakes and/or ice crystals. This embossing folder enhanced the wintry theme that I was going for but didn’t draw attention away from the cute image.
I adhered the coloured image on the smallest green square with liquid glue. Because regular printer paper is fairly thin I applied the glue thinly on the green piece, spread it out with my finger and adhered the coloured to the green panel, this way I don’t get ugly splotches. I also adhered the snowflake/ice crystal panel to the green bigger square using liquid glue. Then I wrapped some red ribbon (that I recently bought from The Ribbon Girl) around this panel twice and adhered to the back with regular tape.
Next step is to work on the sentiment: I stamped one of the sentiments from the “Flurry of Wishes” stamp set from Stampin’ Up on some black card stock using VersaMark ink and I heat embossed with Stampendous “Detail White” embossing powder. Then I die cut a banner from this sentiment using the biggest die in the Lawn Fawn “Everyday Sentiment Banners” die set.
And then it’s time to put this card together: I adhered the coloured image with the green mat to the snowflake/ice crystal panel using one millimetre thick foam tape. Then I adhered the banner to the card using one and two millimetre thick foam tape and folding it to the back on the left hand side, adhering it to the back with regular tape.
And to finish this early Christmas card I adhered all the combined layers to my red card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.
