Welcome in the Neighbourhood!

Hi everyone, today I have a very simple, fun and quick card for you all! We have a new neighbour and to welcome him I made this card. I used a stamp with a couple of houses on it, it’s from our local craft store, but you really can use any stamp you have that features a row of houses. The stamp was a little short to go over the width of the card (I precut the panel with a Crea-Nest-Lies XXL stitched rectangle die in the size I needed) so I first stamped the whole row once and a couple of the houses a second time, next to the first row. I used watercolour paper with not too much tooth and stamped with my MISTI so I was able to stamp multiple time over the same image to get a good impression on the watercolour paper. I used Versafine “Onyx Black” ink because I knew I wanted to use watercolour paints on this image.

After stamping the row of houses and letting the ink dry for a couple of minutes I started colouring the image with some of the colours from my Gansai Tambi 36 watercolour set: I used 61 for the sky (and the windows), 44 for the ground and 30/53 and 46 for the houses. After letting it dry and putting on a second layer (if you don’t already know, I like more vibrant colours) I figured this image would combine nice with a contrasting red piece of card stock in the back. So I cut piece that with a bigger Crea-Nest-Lies XXL rectangle die and edged with Distress ink in the colour “Barn Door”.

I found the background needed a little something extra so I splattered some “Sterling Silver” Finetec Pearl Color and let the piece sit to dry. In the meantime I started working on the sentiment. I really only have one stamp set that includes the word “Welcome” so I cut one stamp from the Kaisercraft “Little One” (meant for baby cards) up to create the sentiment I needed for this card. I stamped this sentiment on some rough left over watercolour paper from a different project and cut the panel to the right size with the smallest die from the My Favorite Things “Stitched Rectangle STAX” die set. I used some of the blue watercolour paint on the edges to make it less stark white and more part of design I was going for and matted this piece on some greenish/turquoise card stock that I cut free hand and edged with VersaMagic “Aegean Blue” ink.

To put this card together I glued the biggest water coloured piece to the red mat with liquid glue, wound some brown thread around the panel and adhered to the back with regular tape, and adhered this combined piece to a crème coloured card base with one millimetre thick foam tape. Next I glued the “Welcome” sentiment to the greenish/turquoise card stock piece with liquid glue and adhered both to the card with one millimetre thick foam tape. I love the clean and simple result!

And that’s it for today’s quick and fun watercolour card! Hope you enjoyed!

I would like to submit this card to the following challenge:
