Art Nouveau Bloom in Faber Castell Polychromos

The Paper Shelter Art Nouveau Bloom Faber Castell Polychromos

Hi everyone, today I have another card project, where I use coloured pencils, for you all. As you can see that what is different about this card is it’s shape! I can’t remember another card where I used this round shape so it was a lot of fun trying this out. I started this card by using the biggest die in my round Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die set on a white square card base (on top you let the die hang over the square base a little so that the front and the back of the card are still connected, otherwise you just create two loose circles). This creates the round card base that I’m working with today.

Next I printed this digital stamp from The Paper Shelter called “Art Nouveau Bloom“ onto regular printer paper. I die cut around the image using the largest die in the My Favorite Things “Stitched Circle STAX“ die set and then coloured the image using my Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils. I used the following colours: 103, 109, 132, 186, 188, 180, 177, 154, 155, 172, 165, 133, 138 and 137.

After the colouring was done I started working on the background: I die cut a circle from the background paper that comes with the digital stamp from The Paper Shelter (this is so much fun, you don’t only receive the image that you can colour in, you also get the background paper with it that you can print out and you also get a fully coloured image that you can print also, this way you can create a card without needing to colour the image, handy when you don’t have a lot of time!). For this die cutting I also using one of the dies in the round Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die set that I used before to die cut the round card base. I edged the patterned background circle panel using Distress Ink in the colour “Tea Dye“ which matches the rest of the card design nicely.

Now, because I used printer paper to print both the background paper and the image that I coloured I needed to stabilize them before I could build the desired layers that I like so much on my cards. I die cut the same sized circles from white card stock, edged the biggest circle (for my background paper) also with the Tea Dye ink colour. Then I adhered the printer paper panels to the card stock using liquid glue: what’s important here is that you put the glue from the bottle on the card stock, spread the glue thinly with you finger and then adhere the printer paper on there, this way you don’t get blotches on your background paper or on you coloured image. If you put the glue from the bottle directly on your printer paper then you do can get blotches which is not very good for the look of the final card! Then I set these panels aside to dry.

Of course this card also needed a sentiment, but I didn’t wanted to bring the card of balance by adhering a lot of additional items on the front (I wanted this card to be able to stand straight up even though the shape is round). I also didn’t wanted to distract to much from the beautiful image. That’s why I decided to stamp the sentiment on the circle of the coloured image: I used a small Happy Birthday stamp from a Scrapberry’s stamp set (you can see it in the picture), there is no name on the stamp set but you can use any tiny sentiment stamp. I stamp with Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink.

And then it’s time to put this card together: I adhered the background patterned paper panel onto the round base card using one millimetre thick foam tape and I put the round coloured image panel on top also using one millimetre thick foam tape. For my finishing touches I used some sequins that I adhered using Ranger Medium Matte (I used Cartwright’s sequins in the colours “Metallic Gold “, “Satin Light Purple “ and “Satin Dark Purple“).

And that finishes today’s card project.

I wish everyone a creative day!
