Calender Month Series - August

Whimsy Stamps Love You Slow Much

Hi everyone, today I have what is already the eight instalment of this Calender Month Series for you all. The summer vacations are almost over, kids are getting ready to go back to school again (at least where I live) and we hope to have nice summery weather in September also!

So, for this month’s page I’m working with a very light (but not pastel or dull) sort of green and a darker purplish-pinkish colour. And I figured that since I haven’t used any kraft coloured paper to colour on, in this Series yet, I would do that today.

Whimsy Stamps Love You Slow Much

I started by stamping this adorable fairy from Whimsy Stamps, called “Love you slow much”, onto Strathmore “Toned Tan” paper with Versafine “Onyx Black” ink and using my MISTI. I coloured her with a mixed array of coloured pencils: I used Faber Castell Polychromos, Prismacolor pencils, Holbein Artist’s Colored Pencils and the white from Caran d’Ache Luminance.

From Faber Castell I used: 165, 135, 231, 187, 176, 175 and 250.

For the skin I used from Prismacolor: Creme, Beige, Light Peach, Peach and Salmon Pink.

And from Holbein I used (from the “Pastel Tone Set” that you can buy on Ebay): Lettuce Green and Mauve.

After the colouring was done I traced some of the lines that faded with a Copic Multiliner (0.1).

Then I die cut around the image using a circle nesting die from my circle Crea-Nest-Lies XXL die set. I also die cut a slightly larger circle from a matching piece of purple-pink card stock that I edged with Archival ink in the colour “Plum”. I adhered both circles together using liquid glue and applied some Stickles in the colour “Diamond” on the fairy’s wings with an old brush (that I washed afterwards) and set these circles aside to dry.

Then it’s time to start working on the background: I free hand cut a piece of patterned paper (from my stash), featuring a very light green plaid pattern, in the size I wanted: in my case 15x19 cm. This panel I edged with Memento ink in the colour “Olive Grove”, to create a bit more definition. Then I die cut one of the “So Detailed” thinlits dies from Stampin’Up twice from some shiny plummy brown card stock, I cut of two small pieces, and adhered the biggest pieces to the plaid panel using liquid glue. I measured where the smaller parts should go and glued them on also. Where the two panels meet I wrapped a ribbon around the plaid panel and made a knot so that the edges where the two panels meet aren’t visible. This particular ribbon I bought from The Ribbon Girl.

Next it’s time to adhere the circles with the coloured image that I created earlier on: I adhered these over the ribbon using one millimetre thick foam tape. Then I adhered all of these panels to the calender page with one millimetre thick foam tape and for my finishing touch I used some Cartwright’s Sequins in the colours “Satin Gold” and “Light Willow Green” and I adhered those to the page with Ranger Medium Matte.

And that finished this month’s page: I love this particular page so much, all the elements fit so well together! I hope you enjoyed and I wish you a creative day!

The first seven pages of this calender can be found in the links below (in the posts for the months January and February I also explain more about what this series is about if you would like to know more about that):
