Hi guys, because today is World Card Making Day I just had to post something really pretty. I made this card a while back but never got around to posting!
I created this card using one of the images from Syta van Gelderen (Syta also ships outside the Netherlands). These images are especially designed for card making and/or mixed media and the paper on which these images are printed is nice and sturdy enough. For this card I used sheet number 141012 and this deer is only one of the images on that sheet.
In fact, this card started with the background: I created the dotty panel for a different card but after the panel was done I didn’t like the combination with the image I had coloured. So I put it aside to use it on some other project, and this was the right project for it!
To create the background panel I die cut a square with one of my Crea-Nest-Lies XXL dies from some white linen textured card stock. Then I run that panel through my Big Shot with one of the embossing folders from Sizzix in the set that’s called “Dots & Flowers”. Next I used two colours of gilding wax over the panel to create this gorgeous metallic colour and shine: I used Pebeo “King Gold” and Treasure “Pewter”.
To finish the background I die cut a mat with a larger stitched square nesting die from the same green colour that I used on the rest of the card and edged that green panel with Memento’s “Olive Grove” ink. I adhered both panels together with liquid glue.

Back to the deer at hand: I cut the image from the sheet, using my scissors, and taking the image a little bigger then the lines that are given and distressing the edges with a Heidi Swapp Edge Distresses (Tim Holtz has a similar tool, but you can also use your scissors). Then I cut a piece of dark kraft card stock a little larger then the image and also distressed that panel and edging with Memento “Rich Cocoa” ink.
Next I started working on the layers in between the background panel and the image. I had some jute “ribbon” with golden sparkles left from last years Christmas cards so I decided to use that and cutting parts of and distressing with my fingers until I had two pieces that I liked. I also had some paper/fabric circles in my stash that had the green colour I was going for and I combined these with some die cuts: from some shiny brown card stock I cut one of the shapes from the Marianne Design “LR0273” die set and from some glittery card stock and some vellum I die cut snowflakes (I used a snowflake die set I bought on Ebay, so no name brand, you can use whatever snowflakes dies you have). Then it’s time to put this card together but because I felt something was missing I first splattered with some COLIRO Pearl Colors by Finetec GmbH in the colour “Chocolate” before adhering all the in between layers to the background I already created.

After adhering everything to the background panel I adhered all of this to a white linen textured card base with one millimetre thick foam tape (actually it’s a little easier to do this earlier on in the process but I didn’t think about that at that moment) and finished of the card with some clear flat backed rhinestones and a die cut sentiment from the same green card stock that I used for the background. The sentiment reads Happy Holidays in Dutch (I used a die from Crealies with number “CLTS102”).
And that finishes today’s card! I wish everyone a creative World Card Making Day!
