Art Journal Page: Magic is in Your Heart

Hi everyone, today I would like to show you my take on the February Mixed Media Place Challenge Mood Board. You can find more details about this challenge here: http://mixedmediaplace.blogspot.nl/2018/02/february-challenge.html This mood board and it’s title made me think of fairies and celtic elements, so that’s the design I’m going for.

Today I’m working in my Winsor & Newton Heavy Weight Wire-O Sketch Book. I started my project by cutting two watercolour panels in the size that I wanted (which for me is: 14,5 x 20,5 cm for each panel). Then I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop (white) “Modeling Paste“ over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Celtic Design“ (TCW732s), using a palette knife, and let that dry.

When the modeling paste was dry I coloured the panels with Finnabair by Prima Marketing Art Alchemy Metallique Paint in the colours “Steampunk Copper“ (one of my favourites in this line) and “Mermaid Teal“ mixing them on the page until I was happy.

Then I started working on the other elements: for the right hand panel I die cut one element with a Joy Crafts die with number 6002/0149. This element I painted with another colour of Metallique Paint from the same line, this one is called “Crocus Fields“, combined with the “Steampunk Copper “ colour that I used before, adding layers until I was happy. I adhered this element to my page and then used Glossy Accents to ad Finnabair by Prima Marketing Art Ingredients Glass Glitter in the colour “Gold Rush“ in some places and set that aside to dry. I also die cut and painted in the same way three small branches with a Precious Marieke die with number PM10096 from her Fantastic Flowers line. And I also painted two chipboards (in the shape of vines) from Wycinanka. Then I adhered all these elements to the page in a way that appealed to me and topped of the right hand page with a layered fairy image (each element is fussy cut by hand and then glued together in layers) and some Finnabair by Prima Marketing Art Alchemy Metallique Wax in the colour “Old Silver“ to enhance some of the celtic designs (I applied the wax with my fingers).

For the left hand page I die cut a square element with a Joy Crafts die with number 6002/0147 and painted that in the same way as I did with the elements on the right hand page, and I also added the glass glitter in the same way as on the right hand page. Then I looked for a quote that I liked and pencilled that in on some Strathmore “Toned Tan“ paper, first with a graphite pencil and when I was happy I went over the lines with a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen (s). I used a calligraphy style that I taught myself as a child. When the ink was dry I tore this piece of paper in a shape that I liked and edged a little with Art Alchemy Wax in the colour “Aged Brass“.

And to finish the left hand page I adhered the quote to the die cut element and adhered this combination to the page.

Now I only have to adhere the completed pages to my art journal (for this I used The Crafter’s Workshop “Matte Gel Medium“).

That’s is for today’s fun fairy project! I wish you a creative day!
