Hi everyone, welcome to my stop in the Altenew Celebrating Parents Card Drive Blog Hop. If you came here from the super-talented Marge Yoon then you’re right on track (but you can always go back to the beginning HERE).
I have so much fun being back as a guest designer for Altenew!: I feel that masculine cards are not the most easy cards to make and I think I’m not the only one (if you haven’t visited my blog before, I have a special category on the main page of my blog with more masculine card inspiration that I have created in the past).
I created two masculine cards for today’s project, one is a Father’s Day card and one is a masculine birthday card. So, let’s get started!

Card 1:
For my first card I created a rectangle panel from some watercolour paper. On this watercolour panel I sprayed some water and then, while the paper is still wet, I sprayed the top half with an Altenew Ink Spray called “Warm Sunshine“ and the other half with an Altenew Ink Spray called “Ocean Waves“, in the middle, where these two colours meet you will get a nice green colour. Now I dry the panel with a heat tool.
Next I’m using the same Altenew Ink Sprays in combination with a smooshing and, after that, splattering technique to create a fun background design. Each layer I dried in between before I did the next one. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s really not and the result makes is worth while for sure! And the shimmer in these sprays makes the panel come to life but it’s not over the top! You know men, they don’t like bling as much as we do!
I looked for a matching piece of light gray coloured card stock in my stash and from that I created a slightly larger panel. These two panels I adhered together using liquid glue.
Now that my background panel is ready I’m going to focus on my focal points: for this I stamped the hammer image from the Altenew “Best Dad“ stamp set several times onto Strathmore “Bristol Smooth Surface“ paper using black ink. Then I coloured all the images with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and my Pentel Aquabrush. I used the following colours of Zig Markers: Pale Gray, Blue Gray, Ochre and Turquoise Green. Then I used the matching Altenew “Best Dad“ die set to cut out all the images (which is a lot faster then fussy cutting).
Now I can adhere the hammer images in a fun design on the front of the card. I cut of the pieces that where hanging of of the gray panel.

For my sentiments I used one of the sentiments from the same Altenew “Best Dad“ stamp set and also the little open star stamp that comes in that set. I stamped the sentiment and the stars using VersaMark ink on black card stock and then I heat embossed using Altenew “Antique Silver“ Crisp Embossing Powder.
I wrapped the sentiment around the combined card stock panels and adhered on the back using regular tape.
Now the only thing I have to do is to adhere these combined panels to a crème coloured linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.
I really love the colour combination and the fun design of this Father’s Day card!

Card 2:
For my second card I also started with a rectangle shaped watercolour panel. I also first sprayed with water and then with the “Warm Sunshine“ Altenew Ink Spray on the top half and then with the “Ocean Wave“ Altenew Ink Spray on the other half of the panel and dried the colours. I also splattered with both colours on this panel and then, when the Ink Spray was dry, ran the panel through my die cutting machine with the new Altenew “Dotted Scales Debossing Cover Die“. This creates a fun detail in the back of my card.
Now I’m going to design the front of my card: for this I stamped one of the images from the Altenew “Geometric Flowers“ stamp set several times onto Strathmore “Bristol Smooth Surface“ paper using VersaMark ink and then I heat embossing using the same Altenew “Antique Silver“ Crisp Embossing Powder as before. The stamp set that I used has the word Flowers in it’s name but that doesn’t mean that you can’t use it on a masculine card as I’m showing you today (I love it when I can use my craft stash in versatile ways)!
Next I’m going to colour all the images using my Zig Clean Color Real Bruh Markers in the colours Ochre and Turquoise Green and my Pentel Aquabrush. On some I used two colours and on some I only used one colour. When the colouring was done I die cut the images with the matching Altenew “Geometric Flowers“ die set. Now I can create the fun design as you can see in the pictures using all the coloured elements. I adhered all the pieces using one millimetre thick foam tape and I cut of the access using my scissors.

For my sentiment I choose one of the sentiment from the Altenew “Birthday Builder“ stamp set and I stamped the sentiment on a banner shaped piece of crème coloured linen textured card stock.
I also created a slightly larger banner shape, from the same light gray card stock that I used on my first card, on which I adhered the first banner. From some darker gray card stock I also created a slightly larger rectangle panel on which I adhered the first one using liquid glue.
Now I can ad the layered sentiment banner that I created before to my project using liquid glue and wrapping the banner to the back on the right hand side and adhere there using regular tape.
Now I only have to adhere these combined panels to a crème coloured linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape to finish my card.
And that’s it for today’s project!
How do you go about creating masculine cards, I would love to hear?
If you like what I create then you might want to consider to subscribe to my newsletter to not miss out on any of my other creations ;-) (if you haven’t done that already)!
My blog is the last stop on today’s hop!
