Altenew Dynamic Die Cutting Blog Hop + Giveaway

Altenew Die Cutting Blog Hop

Hi everyone, welcome to my stop on the “Altenew Dynamic Die Cutting Blop Hop“. Today, a group of awesome designers is showing you lots of fun things you can do with the fabulous Altenew dies!

If you are following the line up then you should have arrived here from the fabulous Olga Moss (but you can always go back to the start of the hop on the Altenew blog)!

I created three sets of cards, all Christmas themed (because you can never have enough Christmas cards, right?) showing lots of different techniques and using only a few items! So, let’s get started!

Set 1:

The first card in this set is created by die cutting some red felt with a very versatile die by Altenew called “Mandala Die Set“. This set contains two dies that you can use together or alone. On this set of cards I used both dies in the set together.

I die cut the red felt with both of the dies and then I also created a green mandala by die cutting the same shape from some green card stock. Both of these die cut mandala’s I adhered off set to a rectangle shaped crème colored linen textured card stock panel (slightly smaller then my card base), using liquid glue.

Once adhered you can cut of the excess that is hanging of the edges of the rectangle crème colored panel (this is easiest done from the back), using your scissors. Don’t throw the left over pieces away yet!

On this same panel I also stamped one of the sentiments from the Altenew “Holiday Wishes“ stamp set using Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink and my MISTI.

And to finish this first card I adhered the rectangle panel to a crème colored linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape and then I added some finishing touches by adhering some gold colored star shaped embellishments from my stash.

The second card in this set is created in the same way but now the green layer is felt and the red layer is card stock and I used a square card base and silver colored star shaped embellishments.

And then I had some left over die cut card stock pieces in red and green and I decided to also make a card from those. The left over mandala pieces I adhered on top of each other and then I adhered them to a crème colored rectangle panel, stamping another sentiment from the same stamp set above it and embellishing with some of the same gold stars.

Set 2:

On this second set of Christmas cards on each card I only used one of the dies that come in the “Mandala Die Set“ that I also used on the first set of cards. These cards look totally different because of this and because of the different materials I used.

For the first card in this set I cut a square panel from some gold glitter card stock (slightly smaller then my card base). Then I die cut the mandala shape (the inner part) from this square panel and adhered that to a equally large white linen textured square panel , using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Then I used a combination of sentiments from the same sentiment stamp set that I used on my first set of cards and stamped those onto a piece of vellum using the same black ink as before and clear heat embossing afterwards.

This strip of vellum I wrapped around the combined square panels that I created before and adhered on the back using regular tape.

Now all I have to do is to adhere these combined panels to a white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

For the second card in this set I die cut the inner mandala shape from a seven centimetre wide strip of the same gold glitter card stock that I used for the first card in this set. I adhered the die cut strip on a white linen textured rectangle panel (at the very top) and stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set as before underneath.

And for the third card is this set I also die cut the inner mandala shape from a 7 centimetre wide strip of gold glitter card stock but this time I first ran the white linen textured rectangle panel through my die cutting machine with the very pretty Altenew “Dotted Scales Debossinng Cover Die“, this creates a fun additional element on the background.

Then I adhered the gold glitter mandala shape on top (in the middle) and added my sentiment in the same way as I did with the first card in this set using a vellum strip.

Isn’t this a great way to create some fun and fabulous Christmas cards in no time at all?

Set 3:

What else can you do with this sort of dies? For example you can create a stencil from them. Which I did for this last set of cards. These cards took a bit more time to create but the results are totally fun!

I first die cut the complete mandala (inner and outer shape) from some sturdy card stock. I also cut a rectangle panel, slightly smaller then my card base, from some crème colored linen textured card stock. Next I used the die cut mandala shape as a stencil and applied two colors of glittery paste (Nuvo Glimmer Paste in “Emerald Green“ and Imagination Crafts Sparkle Medium in “Sage Green“) over the die cut, using a palette knife, then take the die cut of carefully and let the rectangle panel dry!

In the mean time I stamped one of the shapes from the fun Altenew “Geometric Flowers“ stamp set four times onto Strathmore “Bristol Smooth Surface Paper“ using the same black ink as before and clear heat embossing afterwards. Then I colored the stamped images to look like Christmas baubles using my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers in the colors “Geranium Red“, “Wine Red“ and “Pale Green“, using my waterbrush, and also adding in some highlights with a white Gelly Roll Pen.

When the coloring was done and dry I die cut the bauble shapes with the matching Altenew die set for the stamp set.

Once the glittery pastes had dried I was able to ad the stamped sentiments to these same panels. Then I adhered the die cut baubles on top using one millemetre thick foam tape.

To make them look more like baubles I pierced the baubles to create a hole and I used some metallic gold (for one card) and red (for the other card) thread and a needle to create the strings for the baubles to hang on.

Then I added some bows using ribbon (gold for one card and red for the other) and then all I had to do to finish these fun cards is to adhere the top panel to the crème colored card base.

And that’s it for today’s Christmas card and die cutting project!
