Art Journal Page: Winter

Molotow Aqua Twin Markers

Hi everyone, today I’m on the Colourstock Blog with a fun winter themed art journal page: I’m not a fan of the winter weather, I don’t like ice and cold, but I do agree with the quote that I used on today’s page, so I try to remind myself of that whenever I’m not enjoying the current season! So, let’s get started!

Step 1:

Today I’m working in my A4 sized journal by Studio Light, designed by Art by Marlene. The paper can handle a lot of water, but it doesn’t react well to erasing, so I try to keep that to a minimum. I started by pencilling in the quote that I wanted to use with a graphite pencil and then I went over the lines using a black Copic MultiLiner (0.3). When dry I carefully erased the most visible pencil lines.

Next I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste“ over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil (TCW720s), featuring snowflakes, using a palette knife and let that dry.

Step 2:

Next I worked on my focal points. I wanted to ad summery yellow flowers to my wintry snow flake page as a reminder of summer. For this I stamped the largest flower image from the Simon Says Stamp stamp set called “Beautiful Flowers“ onto Clairefontaine “Bristol“ paper using Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink and I clear heat embossed afterwards, this way the lines stay black and crisp no matter how much water I ad. I stamped the large flower element twice this way and also one of the separate loose flowers (twice), the loose flowers fit exactly on top of the larger design.

Then I coloured the image using an aquabrush and the following colours of Molotow “Aqua Twin Markers“: Primary Yellow, Pink (when you layer the Pink over the Primary Yellow you create this orangy tone that you see in the picture), Yellow Green, Dark Green and Cyan. When dry I added back in some highlights using a white Gelly Roll Pen.

When the colouring was done I fussy cut around the flowers leaving a small white border.

Step 3:

Now it’s time to ad colour to the background: a choose a wintry blue colour, Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in the colour “Danny Zuko’s Denim“. Ad a bit of the powder to the page using a fan brush. Spray with water, which makes the colour run, dry when you like what you have. Repeat this until you are happy with the result. To resemble bits of snow if then sprinkles on little bits of the Stampendous Fran-Tage Embossing Powder in “Shabby Blue“ (which contains, white, blue and dark gold particles) and heated the paper from underneath (yes, from underneath, I just sprinkled the embossing powder on the paper, it’s not sticking to anything yet, by melting it from underneath it stays put in the right place and once melted it’s adhered to the paper! Heated from the top the embossing powder will go flying everywhere, trust me I know from experience). I love the effect this embossing powder creates!

Now the only thing I have to do is to adhere the flower elements on top: first I added the largest elements using one millimetre thick foam tape and then I added the smaller single flowers on top of the larger elements also using one millimetre thick foam tape!
