Layered Fuchsia Greeting Card

Hi everyone, I’m very excited to be showing you today’s project since it’s my first project on the Lindy’s Stamp Gang blog and also the project I created for my Design Team Application! Today I would like to show you step by step how I created this fun layered card design.

The best thing about this card is that all the colours on this card are created with the use of Lindy’s Stamp Gang products!

Let’s get started!

Step 1:

I started my project with a square folded card base, then I took the largest circle shaped nesting die that would fit the card, this die I temporarily adhered to the card base, making sure to let the die peek out a little from the top, where the fold is. This combination I ran through my die cutting machine, creating a circle shaped card base.

Step 2:

With a two sizes smaller die I next die cut a circle shape from watercolour card stock (I used Crafter’s Companion “Watercolour Card“ but you can use any watercolour paper you have). On this circle panel I then stamped my sentiment using one of the sentiments from the Altenew “Beautiful Day“ stamp set. I stamped with Archival Ink in the colour “Jet Black“ because this ink is waterproof.

Step 3:

Now the fun part begins: I’m going to ad my first colour. For this I choose a Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in the colour “Bonjour Butter“, which is a nice warm yellow colour, and I will work with the so called “ink smooshing technique“.

With a fan brush I transfer some of the powder to my work surface (a glass mat, but you can also use a craft sheet). I spray the powder with plenty of water and then take a thin not to large plastic sheet (you can use one layer of the packaging stamp sets usually come in), then take some of the colour mixture on the sheet and smoosh the colour on the watercolour panel. You can create awesome backgrounds this way!

The only thing you have to be careful with is that you don’t combine colours that create brown together (unless that’s what you want of course)!

You can apply the colours in one or more layers, drying with your heat tool in between, whatever makes you happy!

When I was done with my circle panel I had some colour left and this I applied in the same way on a separate piece of watercolour paper (see Step 5 for picture).

Step 4:

For my second colour I choose one of my favourite pink colours, which is Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shaker in “Magnolia Magenta Gold“. I applied the colour to my panel in the same way as I did with the yellow in the last step, but I tried to create more spots, so that not all the yellow would be covered up. Here I definitely used more then one layer, I think about three or four will do!

Step 5:

The left over pink colour I also applied to the same watercolour paper the I applied my left over yellow colour on, making sure that I had enough white space left. After drying the paper I die cut several circle shapes in different sizes, picking the area’s that I liked best!

Step 6:

I decided that I wanted to ad another layer on the circle panels to create an even more fabulous background for my focal point to sit on.

In this step I’m going to create my own coloured modeling paste: for this you need some clear modeling paste (I used the one by The Crafter’s Workshop). I took some of the clear modeling paste from the jar and put it on my work surface. To the modeling paste I’m adding some Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in the colour “Greased Lightnin‘ Green“ powder with my fan brush and then mix the modeling paste and the powder using a palette knife.

I choose my stencil (The Crafter’s Workshop “TCW781s“) and adhered it on top of the circle shaped watercolour panel, using stencil tape, but only after having covered up the sentiment with a small piece of (red) paper.

Then I applied the DIY coloured modeling paste over the stencil, using a palette knife, and making sure that I don’t cover up the complete background that I created before. Remove the stencil carefully! What I had left over of the modeling paste I applied to the smaller circle shapes in the same way!

Wash you stencil when you’re done.

Step 7:

While the green modeling paste is still wet I apply some of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Embossing Powder in the colour “Twilight Bronze Slate“ to some of the area’s covered with modeling paste, this way I will create some gorgeous shiny highlights! Don’t cover up all the area’s that you applied modeling paste to! Now, set the circle panels aside to dry. You can melt the embossing powder when the modeling paste had completely dried.

Step 8:

Next I’m going to work on my focal point: for this I choose one of the stamps in the Clearly Besotted “Beautiful Friend“ stamp set. I stamped the fuchsia image onto Starthmore “Bristol Smooth Surface“ paper using Versafine “Onyx Black“ ink and I clear heat embossing afterwards using Lindy’s Stamp Gang “Clearly Clear“ embossing powder. This way the stamped lines stay black and crisp no matter how much water I ad.

Now I’m going to colour the image using Lindy’s Stamp Gang products: I first sprayed some Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray in the colour “Cotton Candy Pink“ on my work surface and then I colour the parts I want pink with a small brush, slowly adding more layers and creating shadows and highlights in my flower design.

In the same way I ad the dark pink colour (using the “Magnolia Magenta Gold“ that I used before) and the green colour (using the “Greased Lightnin‘ Green“ that I used before), until I like what I have. To ad back in some additional highlights I use a white Gelly Roll Pen.

Step 9:

Now that the modeling paste is dry I can melt the embossing powder on the green modeling paste using a heat tool. Doesn’t this look fabulous, I totally love this result!

I have more circle shapes then I will need on my card, but that’s because, at this point, I don’t know the exact design I will create, and this gives me some choices in colour and size.

I also fussy cut the fuchsia image leaving a small white border.

Step 10:

Now that all my elements are ready I can put my card together. I first create a dusty dark pink circle mat for the largest watercolour panel, using a circle die, and adhere these two panels together using liquid glue. These combined panels I adhere to my circle shaped base card (that we created before) using one millimetre thick foam tape.

At this point I’m going to decide what the final design of my card will look like!

I’m creating smaller circle mats for the other watercolour circle shapes that I want to use and adhere the circles together using liquid glue.

I adhere the first three combined circle sets to the project using one millimetre thick foam tape in the design you can see in the picture.

Step 11:

And to finish my card all I have to do now is to adhere the last elements, also using one millimetre thick foam tape.

This also means that I have some circle shapes left, so I decided to create a matching envelope to go with my card: I just created more dusty dark pink mats, adhered the circle shapes together and then adhered them to my envelope using liquid glue!

Isn’t this a fun greeting card set for a special person? I had so much fun working on this project and I love how the end result turned out!
