Creating Embellishments with Modeling Paste

Hi everyone, today I’m on The Crafter’s Workshop Blog with a fun and different technique: we all know that we can apply modeling paste over a stencil but did you know that you can also use your The Crafter’s Workshop “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste” in your silicone moulds to create embellishments for your cards and other projects? No, then today I will show you how to do this as it is sooooo easy and a lot of fun!

--------------------------------

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

--------------------------------

Step 1:

The silicone moulds I used today are made by Art Studio ProSvet but you can use any silicone moulds that you have, even the very intricate ones that don’t seem to work with anything else! Apply The Crafter’s Workshop “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste” with some pressure (to fill in all the details of the mould) using a palette knife, scrape the top as much clean as possible and set aside to dry! This step only takes two minutes and is mess free (and no sticky fingers)! Let this dry for about 24 hours.

Step 2:

Now you can clean up the edges of the mould using a baby wipe and some alcohol. The excess comes of very easily with a bit of rubbing! If your baby wipe is very wet then that will be sufficient as well. Let the alcohol evaporate for a couple of minutes.

Step 3:

Now you can carefully remove the created mould/embellishment from the silicone shape. This is not hard to do. Keep in mind that this modeling paste embellishment will always be a little more flexible then for example an air dry clay embellishment would be. But this makes it also very suitable for intricate moulds because the tiny pieces of the design don’t break of.

Step 4:

I’m creating two cards with the embellishments that I created with the Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste. Now I’m going to work on the rest of my card designs: I die cut two panels, one square and one rectangle shaped, two sizes smaller then my card bases. Over the square panel I apply the same Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Leafy Branches” (TCW576s), using a palette knife, and I do the same with the rectangle panel but here I use a stencil called “Tiny Circles” (TCW361s) and then let the panels dry.

When dry I adhere the embellishments that I created earlier on using The Crafter’s Workshop “Matte Gel Medium” and a brush (wash the brush afterwards).

Step 5:

Next I’m adding colour to the backgrounds with the attached embellishments. For the square card I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shaker in “Magnolia Magenta Gold” and Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray in “Blazing Sun”. For the rectangle panel I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in “Tears on my Pillow Tangerine”, Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray in “Kissin’ Kenickie Coral” and “Delphinium Turquoise” and lastly Lindy’s Stamp Gang Embossing Powder in “C’est la vie Cerise” in combination with Ranger “Emboss It Dabber” (only over the modeling paste embellishments).

The coloured powders I add with a fan brush and spray with water which makes the colour run, I dry with my heat tool when I like what I have. Then I repeat the process until I’m happy with the results. The sprays I apply with a brush, deepening the colour or creating splatters.

Step 6:

I picked the colours in the previous step with the images in mind that I want to adhere on top. Now I cut the images to the size that I want and I also create the banner with the sentiment for each card. For this I used a Clearly Besotted stamp set called “Little Onesie” and a Kennedy Grace Creations stamp set called “Sweet Baby Mine”. The banner dies are by My Favorite Things (“Slanted Sentiment Strips”).

Step 7:

Now the only thing I have to do is to put my cards together: I die cut the mats for each card, grey for the square card and light blue for the rectangle card and adhere the according panels on top using liquid glue. Then I adhered the baby image and the banners, both with there according mats, on top using foam tape and liquid glue. The banner is folded around the back and adhered there using regular tape. And then I can adhere this combination to a white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Some detail pictures:

And that’s it for today’s fun embellishment project. If you don’t know this technique yet then you should try it out, it’s a lot of fun!
