Lindy’s and Salt

Hi everyone, today I’m on The Lindy’s Stamp Gang blog with a fun technique for which I’m using salt, to create visual textured papers. These I will use to create two cards with, but of course you can use them as well for your journalling and mixed media projects! Let’s get started!

Step 1:

I taped some watercolour papers to a board, I used smooth watercolour paper for the yellow/green combo and more textured watercolour paper for the blueish/teal combo. I first sprayed the entire panel with water. Then I added the colours with a brush and sprayed with water to make the colours run more when I felt that was needed.

Next I added the salt to the wet paper and let it dry by itself. The salt needs time to soak up the liquids! That’s what creates the fun texture on the paper. I used coarse sea salt to get a more visible texture.

These are the colours that I used for the yellow/green paper: Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sprays in Green with Envy Green and Yellow Rose of Texas and Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in Sassy Sapphire.

And these are the colours that I used for the blueish/teal combo: Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sprays in Scintillating Silver and Tibetan Poppy Teal.

Step 2:

When dry the papers look like this.

Step 3:

Then you can rub of the salt with your fingers or you can use an old credit card if you prefer that. My wonderful textured papers look like this now! Mostly it’s visual texture but you can feel some of the residue from the salt on the paper as well.

Notice that where you cluster the salt the texture is different from where the single grains landed.

In the same way I create some papers for which I used contrasting colours.

On the black textured watercolour paper I used one of the new Lindy’s Stamp Gang Squirts in Hockey Puck Black (one of my favourite blacks of all time, and I don’t even like black that much, but the combination with the shimmer in this back is just gorgeous).

On the silver smoother watercolour paper I used one of the new Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shakers called Stormy Silver.

Step 4:

Next I’m die cutting the elements for my cards deciding which element should be what colour.

I started with the background panels for my cards first (these are two sizes smaller then my card base). Then I die cut the sentiments, the dragonfly parts and the leaves.

Step 5:

Now I can start putting my cards together: for my green card I cut a piece of vellum in a size that I wanted. I also stamped the word birthday on some black card stock using Versamark ink and heat embossed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Purely White embossing powder. Then I cut around the word creating a small strip. I die cut a larger mat from some mat silver card stock and adhered both panels together using liquid glue. Then I adhered the leaves on top also using liquid glue.

For the teal card I adhered the dragonfly elements on top of each other using liquid glue. I cut the sentiment words from some watercolour paper and adhered the coloured words a little off set on top also using liquid glue. I also die cut my mat and adhered the panels together using liquid glue and then adhered this combination to my crème coloured linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Step 6:

To finish my cards I did the following: for my green card I next wrapped the vellum piece around the combined panels, folded to the back and adhering there using regular tape. Then I adhered the sentiment elements on top using see through tape runner. Now I only have to adhere this combination to my crème coloured linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

To finish the teal card I only had to adhere the sentiment elements, the leaves and the dragonfly on top of the card combination using liquid glue and one millimetre thick foam tape.
