A Little Birdy

Hi everyone, today I would like to share with you this set of cards, suitable for anybody but especially for someone that loves birds!

To get my project started I stamped both the bird image as well as one of the sentiments from the Crafter’s Companion “Tropical Lovebirds” stamp set onto Strathmore “Bristol Smooth Surface” paper using black ink and than I heat embossed using clear embossing powder. This way my lines stay black and crisp, no matter how much water I add. Next I die cut around the stamped images using a rectangle nesting die, sized two sizes smaller than my card base.

Now I can start the colouring process, using the Spectrum Noir Aqua Markers and a waterbrush:

For the warm toned bird I used Flame Red, Sunset, Sunshine, Bud Green and Forest. Around the image I coloured using Amber. For the branch I used Tawny and Chocolate. For the claws I used Charcoal.

For the cool toned bird I used Azure Blue, Marine and Orchid. Around the image I used a combination of Olive and Jasmine. For the branch I used Chocolate. For the beak and the claws I used Charcoal.

You can find all the Aqua markers that I used on today's project HERE!

I apply the colour directly to the paper and wash outwards using the water brush. I keep adding layers of colour and drying the paper in between (using my heat tool) until I’m happy with the result. After the colouring is done I add back in some highlights using a white gel pen.

Finishing the cards is easy: I die cut a slightly larger mat for each card (one is dark blue and one is moss green). I adhere both rectangle panels together using liquid glue. This combination I can than adhere to my creme coloured linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape.

And that is it for today’s project! I wish you a creative day!
