Hi everyone, today I would like to share with you a different kind of project than I usually create. I have followed a course via the Anna Mason Online School a couple of years ago and since I stepped down from two design teams in the last couple of months and we are pretty much stuck at home I figured this would be a good time to start painting again!
Anna Mason teaches a very detailed way of watercolour painting. Each project includes a line drawing and the picture of the item you are painting. Through a series of video’s she shows you how you can accomplish the painting step by step and how she mixes the colours you need.
There is a free project on her website that you can try out (for me it was the pear project that I completed a couple of years ago), this way you can see if you like her style of teaching.
If you would like to try this out I can not express enough how important it is to use good quality paint and the best quality paper you can afford. And I’m totally in love with Anna’s brushes.
For today’s Daffodil project I worked in the sketchbook also recommended by Anna Mason, the Zeta Series Premium Sketch Book (270 gr). It can not take as much as the really smooth really expensive watercolour paper but for my smaller projects I feel this is a really good paper.
These are the watercolour paint colours that Anna Mason recommends for this particular project (there is a list on her website with the Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith colours you can use, there is only a limited palette of colours that she uses for each of her project, so you don’t have to keep buying more and more colours each time for each new project):
· Winsor Newton: Burnt Sienna
· Winsor Newton: Cobalt Blue
· Winsor Newton: Cobalt Violet
· Winsor Newton: Davy's Gray
· Winsor Newton: Olive Green
· Daniel Smith: Payne's Blue Gray
· Daniel Smith: Hooker’s Green
· Schmincke : Transparent Orange
· Winsor Newton: Winsor Lemon
And that is it for today’s project! I wish you a creative day!
