Bright Layered Birthday Card

Hi everyone, today I would like to show you step by step how you can build a layered card project! Let’s get started!

Step 1:

I started my project by stamping the larger flower image from the Wplus9 stamp set called Kind Soul, as well as a particular section of this same image onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface paper using Versafine Onyx Black ink and clear heat embossing afterwards using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Clearly Clear Embossing Powder.

It is wise to use an anti-static powder tool before stamping the image onto the paper to prevent the embossing powder to stick to parts where you fingers touched the paper.

Than I mixed some of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shakers in Magnolia Magenta Gold and Cuckoo Clock Cardinal with water on my palette and started painting the image using a small brush. I took some of the mixture and put that in a shadowed area (pretending that the sun is in the top left hand corner), clean the brush and wash the color outwards using only clean water on the brush. Work on small area’s on one go, otherwise you will create harsh lines. I kept adding layers to each flower until I liked what I had. I also added in some of the pink color to the the red layers and some of the red to the pink layers.

The two flowers from the second stamped image are going to be fussy cut and layered on top of the final project.

I also added in some green using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Shaker in Cathedral Pines Green for the leaves working in the same way. Slowly adding more layers until I was happy with how it looked.

Around the image I used some Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in Azure Sea Asters, taking some of the powder out of the jar using a fan brush (or other dry brush) and mixing in the palette with water to create a watercolor paint, just like the Magical Shaker colors.

Step 2:

When all the colouring is done I fussy cut the images and add in some highlights using a white Gelly Roll pen.

Step 3:

Next I’m working on colouring a clay mould shape that I will place between the flower layers. For this I first use a brush to add some of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray in Pineapple Paradise to the clay mould shape, spray a little with water to prevent harsh edges from showing up and then dry the mould with my heat tool. If you added too much yellow you can dab of the excess with a paper kitchen towel before drying.

To add some darker colour and a more aged look I then lightly rubbed the mould shape over my VersaMark ink pad. This way the sticky ink will adhere to the top part of the mould shape but not the crevices. I sprinkled some of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Embossing Powder in Tin Roof Rusted! Over the mould and tapped of the excess, then melted the remaining powder with my heat tool. I totally love how this looks!

Step 4:

For my background panel I first die cut a piece of watercolour paper to a size that is two sizes smaller then my card base and stamped one of the sentiments from the Clearly Besotted Brushed Sentiments stamp set onto the panel using Archival Jet Black ink. Then I applied some The Crafter’s Workshop Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste over a TCW stencil (TCW907s) using a palette knife and set the panel aside to dry.

When dry I added some of the Azure Sea Asters Magical, that I used before, to the panel using a dry (fan) brush and sprayed the powder with water, which makes the colour run. When I liked what I had I dried the panel with my heat tool. This I repeated until I liked how much the panel was covered and how dark the color was.

I also die cut a slightly larger panel from yellow card stock, added some of the Pineapple Paradise color to the edges with a brush, dried with my heat tool and then rubbed the VersaMark ink pad along the edges of this panel and melted some of the Tin Roof Rusted! that stuck to it with my heat tool.

Step 5:

Now I’m ready to put my project together: I adhered both rectangle panels together using liquid glue, this combination I adhered to a rectangle creme colored linen textured card base, also using liquid glue.

The first large flower image I then adhered on top of this combination using one millimetre thick foam tape. I decided on the placement for my mould shape and adhered that onto the stamped and colored flower image using gel medium and a brush and I finished my bright and layered card project by adhering the two single flower shapes on top also using gel medium.
