Captivating Cards

Hi everyone, today I’m sharing a set of cards with you for which I used a gorgeous Penny Black stamp and this one is called “Captivating”. The stamp is fairly large and that is why it took me a while to decide to buy the stamp anyway, but I’m totally glad I did!

I started each card by stamping the flower image onto blue and green card stock (these particular papers are Clairefontaine Paint On Mix Media Multi-Techniques “Blue” and “Grey Green”. I never used these papers before and was quite curious if I would like them. I find this kind of paper very suitable for coloured pencil and in the end I liked the green version better than the blue one, you don’t really see it in the pictures (which surprised me) but on the green paper the colours are brighter and the variety of colours that I can use on the green paper is larger).

Now I can start the colouring process: I colour in my highlights using a white drawing pencil and after that I can add the coloured pencils, today I’m using my Spectrum Noir ColourBlend coloured pencils.

On the blue card I used the colours: Cranberry, Indigo, Alpine and Twilight Blue (around the outer edges). On the green card I used the colours: Cherry Red, Velvet, Jade and Fern Green (as well as a little of the white drawing pencil around the outer edges).

If I went over the stamped lines, especially with the white pencil, I used a Spectrum Noir ArtLiner pen to trace the line back in. No problem there!

After the colouring is done I die cut a square shape around each flower using a nesting die set. Next I stamped my sentiments onto the panels using black ink. On the blue card I used a sentiment from the Whimsy Stamps “Friendly Flowers” stamp set and on the green card I used a sentiment from the Kaisercraft “Background Birthday Sentiments” stamp set.

I created slightly larger mats from purple and red card stock and adhered the square panels for each card together using liquid glue. Now I can adhere this combination onto a white linen textured card base, the blue card is finished here, and on the green card I adhered some sparkly elements from my stash.

And that is it for today’s card project, I wish you a creative day!
