Cupcake Birthday

Hi everyone, today I’m sharing this adorable boy birthday card with you all. I totally adore this cute image and it was totally fun to create a card with it!

Step 1:

I started my project by printing this digital image by Whimsy Stamps called “Cupcake Treat” onto alcohol marker friendly paper. Today I’m colouring with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers in the following colours:

Brown: FS9, GB2, GB5, GB7 and GB10;

Muted red: FS3 and CR5;

Teal: BT1, BT4 and BT9;

Green: AG2.

After the colouring is done I added back in some highlights using a white gel pen and I fussy cut the image leaving a small border. I added some Stickles in the colour “Star Dust” over the wings using a brush, for an extra sparkly effect (wash the brush afterwards because this product acts like a glue).

Step 2:

For my background I die cut a rectangle panel two sizes smaller than my card base from water colour paper. Onto this panel I stamped my sentiment (Whimsy Stamps “Everyday Scripted Sentiments”) using Archival “Jet Black” ink.

Now I can place my stencil of choice (AB Studio ID-160) over the panel and apply some TCW Modeling Paste over the stencil using a palette knife and set aside to dry.

When dry I apply some Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in the colour “Sassy Sapphire” over the panel using a fan brush. Spray the pigment powder with water, which makes the colour run and dry with my heat tool when I like what I have. This I repeat until I’m happy with my background.

Step 3:

To make the coloured and fussy cut image stand out more from the background I die cut some vellum using the Craft Emotions nesting die set 115633/0813, adhere the small die cut edge onto the larger piece using Perga Glue and adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Time to put my project together: I die cut a slightly larger rectangle panel from matching red card stock and adhere both rectangle panels together using liquid glue. This combination I adhered onto a white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape and to finish my project I now only have to adhere the vellum piece with the coloured and fussy cut image on top onto the base project also using one millimetre thick foam tape.

And that is it for today’s project! I wish you a creative day!
