Today I would like to share with you my projects that were published in the May 2022 Crafter's Companion Magazine. They asked me to write a couple of hair tutorials including step by step pictures and today I'm sharing these tutorials with you all!

Set 1: Dark Brown Hair
How to colour:
Step 1:
I recommend using SN Illustrator alcohol markers for colouring hair (because of the brush nib). Use the white of the paper as your highlight and use flicking motions with your marker. Don’t put pressure on the nib and hold the marker almost vertical.
Add GB1 to map out light and shadow area’s in the hair. Follow the guidelines given by the stamped image (follow the movement of the strands of hair visible on your paper).
Step 2:
Add the third darkest colour (GB5) to deepen shadow area’s. Use shorter flicking motions (than in the previous step). Lightly blend GB1 and GB5 using the second lightest colour (GB2) using a light hand and flicking motions, following the direction of the strands of hair (but preserve your highlights).
Step 3:
Add the deeper shadows using the GB7 marker, using even shorter flicking motions than in Step 2, this way you add more detail and more depth. Lightly blend with GB5 / GB2 but preserve your highlights.
Step 4:
Add the deepest shadows using the EB7 marker for natural looking hair, using very short flicking motions. Step back from your work (it might help to take a picture) and assess what your project needs. Add bits of GB2 / GB5 / GB7 where your feel this is necessary.
Enjoy the colouring process!
Tip 1:
Colouring hair takes practice, just like learning how to drive a car or any other skill.
Tip 2:
You can stop at any stage when you’re happy with the result!
Tip 3:
You can add more colour but it’s really hard to remove colour once it’s on the paper, so, better to use a light hand.
Tip 4:
You can use CR1 / CR5 / CR7 / CR11 / DR7 for this image to create red hair.
How to create the card:
1. Stamp the Effortless Chic stamp onto Neenah card stock using SN alcohol proof ink. Colour the image using the following alcohol markers : GB1 / GB2 / GB5 / GB7 / EB7 / FS9 / FS7 / HB1 / AB1 and AB3 (instructions how to colour the hair part are mentioned opposite). Fussy cut the image leaving a small border.
2. Cut a rectangle panel one size smaller than your card base from design paper. Cut a slightly smaller rectangle from CC Printable Vellum Paper. Stamp the sentiment (CC With a Grateful Heart stamp set) with black ink on the vellum and heat emboss using clear embossing powder.
3. Adhere the vellum onto the design paper using a CC Glue Tape Pen and adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top using foam tape. To finish the card adhere this combination onto a white rectangle card base also using foam tape.

Set 2: Blonde / Light Brown Hair
How to colour:
Step 1:
I recommend using SN Illustrator alcohol markers for colouring hair (because of the brush nib). Use the white of the paper as your highlight and use flicking motions with your marker. Don’t put pressure on the nib and hold the marker almost vertical.
Add GB1 to map out light and shadow area’s in the hair (as you can see this is a good base colour to have in your stash). Follow the guidelines given by the stamped image (follow the movement of the strands of hair visible on your paper).
Step 2:
Add the middle shade (GB4) to deepen the shadow area’s (use shorter flicking motions than in the previous step). Lighty blend with the GB1 marker using a light hand to be able to preserve your highlights!
Step 3:
Add the deepest shadows using the GB6 marker using short flicking motions. Blend with a light hand using the GB4 marker. Step back from your work (or take a picture) and assess where your project needs more of a certain colour (usually I deepen the shadow area’s one more time).
How to create the card:
1. Stamp the Effortless Chic stamp onto Neenah card stock using SN alcohol proof ink. Colour the image using the following alcohol markers : GB1 / GB4 / GB6 / FS9 / FS7 / HB1 / TB1 and TB3 (instructions how to colour the hair part are mentioned opposite). Fussy cut the image leaving a small border.
2. Cut a rectangle panel one size smaller than your card base from design paper. Stamp the sentiment (CC Twirling Bird stamp set) on the design paper.
3. Adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top using foam tape. To finish the card adhere this combination onto a white rectangle card base also using foam tape.

Set 3: Red Hair
How to colour:
Step 1:
I recommend using SN Illustrator alcohol markers for colouring hair (because of the brush nib). Use the white of the paper as your highlight and use flicking motions with your marker. Don’t put pressure on the nib and hold the marker almost vertical.
I feel this image is more difficult to colour than the image used in Set 1 and 2, so when you are a starter try that one out first!
Add CR1 to map out light and shadow area’s in the hair. Follow the guidelines given by the stamped image (follow the movement of the strands of hair visible on your paper).
Step 2:
Add the third darkest colour (CR7) to deepen shadow area’s. Use shorter flicking motions (than in the previous step). Lightly blend using the (second) lightest colour (CR5 and CR1) using a light hand and flicking motions, following the direction of the strands of hair (but preserve your highlights).
Step 3:
Add the deeper shadows using the CR11 marker, using even shorter flicking motions than in Step 2, this way you add more detail and more depth. Lightly blend with CR5 / CR7 but preserve your highlights.
Step 4:
Add the deepest shadows using the DR7 marker, using very short flicking motions. Step back from your work (it might help to take a picture) and assess what your project needs. Add bits of the previously used colours where your feel this is necessary.
How to create the card:
1. Stamp the Luscious Locks stamp onto Neenah card stock using SN alcohol proof ink. Colour the image using the following alcohol markers : CR1 / CR5 / CR7 / CR11 / DR7 / FS9 / FS7 / HB1 / JG7 / AB1 and AB3 (instructions how to colour the hair part are mentioned opposite). Fussy cut the image leaving a small border.
2. Cut a square panel one size smaller than your card base from design paper. Stamp the sentiment (CC With a Grateful Heart stamp set) on the design paper. Tear a piece of CC Printable Vellum Paper to size and adhere onto the design paper using a CC Glue Tape Pen.
3. Adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top using foam tape. To finish the card adhere this combination onto a creme coloured square card base also using foam tape.

Set 4: Black Hair
How to colour:
Step 1:
I recommend using SN Illustrator alcohol markers for colouring hair (because of the brush nib). Use the white of the paper as your highlight and use flicking motions with your marker. Don’t put pressure on the nib and hold the marker almost vertical.
I feel this hair colour is the most difficult to colour because it’s quite easy to end with just a black mess. Try other hair colours first (green/purple/pink are also quite fun) before this one!
Add TB1 to map out light and shadow area’s in the hair. Follow the guidelines given by the stamped image (follow the movement of the strands of hair visible on your paper).
Step 2:
Add the third darkest colour (IG6) to deepen shadow area’s. Use shorter flicking motions (than in the previous step). Lightly blend using the second lightest colour (IG2) using a light hand and flicking motions, following the direction of the strands of hair (but preserve your highlights).
Step 3:
Add the deeper shadows using the IG8 marker, using even shorter flicking motions than in Step 2, this way you add more detail and more depth. Lightly blend with IG2 / IG6 but preserve your highlights.
Step 4:
Add the deepest shadows using the EB8 marker, using very short flicking motions. Step back from your work (it might help to take a picture) and assess what your project needs. Add bits of the IG2 / IG6 and IG8 marker where your feel this is necessary.
How to create the card:
1. Stamp the Luscious Locks stamp onto Neenah card stock using SN alcohol proof ink. Colour the image using the following alcohol markers : TB1 / IG2 / IG6 / IG8 / EB8 / FS9 / FS7 / HB1 / JG7 and FS3 (instructions how to colour the hair part are mentioned opposite). Fussy cut the image leaving a small border.
2. Cut a square panel one size smaller than your card base from design paper. Stamp the sentiment (CC Feathered Friend stamp set) on the design paper.
3. Adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top using foam tape. To finish the card adhere this combination onto a creme coloured square card base also using foam tape.
