Jenine’s Mindful Art: Guest Project: Beauty

Hi everyone, today I would like to share this fun art journal project with you all and today I’m working in my JMA Slimline Art Journal. Let’s get started!

Step 1:

I started my project by stamping several of the images from the JMA Rose Elements stamp set (JMA-ES-STAMP138) onto Paint On a Grain paper (with the blue logo) using black ink and directly afterwards I heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder. For the best results use an anti-static powder tool before stamping the images.

Using Lindy’s Magical Shaker in the colour Time Travel Teal I painted around the images (this will also be my background page colour). This is supereasy: add some of the powder to a pallette and add water to create a watercolour paint.

Step 2:

Next I can fussy cut the images leaving a small border. Now I can create my lay out just the way I want it. Because I do this before colouring the images I better know where my highlights will go during the colouring process (you don’t have to do this, this is just what I like to do).

I also pick my sentiment in this step so that I know it will fit the total design that I’m going for.

Step 3:

I stamped my sentiment using a waterproof black ink and I applied some white modeling paste over a stencil (this one is JMA-ES-MASK76) using a palette knife and let that dry.

Step 4:

While the modeling paste is drying I can work on colouring the images: for this I used the Studio Light Markers (which are water based) in combination with a waterbrush. I started with the colour Magenta Deep. Next I added some Old Red and Golden Yellow and I finished with some Magenta Deep again. I work on an image until I like what I have, colouring all these images in total took me several hours. For the leaves I used Sap Green and also some of the Golden Yellow colour.

After the colouring is done I added back in some highlights using a white gel pen.

Step 5:

Time to work on my background: I added some of the Time Travel Teal pigment powder onto my paper, I sprayed the powder with water, which makes it run, and I dried what I had when I liked it, this I repeated until the colour is dark enough for my liking over the area that I want to cover.

I also created some background splatters using a Coliro Pearl colour in the colour Peach in combination with a brush.

Step 6:

Now I can adhere my coloured and fussy cut images on top using liquid glue and one millimetre foam tape and to finish the project I only have to darken up some of the papers edges using a black ink and a foam applicator tool.

And that is it for today’s art journal project! I wish you a creative day!
