The Old Days Series: Cute Dragon Card

Hi everyone, today I have this cute dragon for you all! He is called “Freddie”, he’s from Whimsy Stamps and he’s the cutest dragon I have ever seen!

To get this card started I stamped Freddie on some Strathmore “Toned Tan” paper with Memento “Espresso Truffle” ink. Since nobody has ever seen a dragon in real life (and therefore nobody knows what they really look like) you can get to colour him in whatever colour combination you like and for this card I choose the following Faber Castell Polychromos and Holbein Artists’ Colored Pencils (all the Holbein pencils I used are from the “Pastel Tone Set” that you can buy on Ebay).

Faber Castell Polychromos: 137 /250 / 135 and 155.

Holbein Colored Pencils: Cream / Naples Yellow / Cobalt Green / Wisteria and Mauve.

And I also used a Caran d’Ache Luminance in White as my white coloured pencil.

Next I die cut a stitched rectangle around the dragon with the largest die in the My Favorite Things “Stitched Rectangle STAX” die set. I also made a mat from some matching dark pink card stock that I edged with Memento “Sweet Plum” ink (I adhered the dragon to the pink panel with liquid glue and free hand cut around it with a pair of scissors).

I wanted to keep the background simple so I die cut a stitched square panel from some matching patterned paper from my stash and edged this piece with Distress Ink in the colour “Broken China” and I also die cut a slightly larger square panel from the same Toned Tan paper I used before and edged that with Memento “Rich Cocoa” ink. I adhered the square panels together with liquid glue.

For my sentiment I stamped “Have an Magical Day!” (no name brand) onto some purple card stock with the same brown ink as used before, I die cut the sentiment into a banner shape with the smallest die in the Lawn Fawn “Everyday Sentiment Banners” die set and I also edged this banner with Memento “Grape Jelly” ink. Next I die cut a banner from a scrap of vellum one size larger and adhered both together with see through tape runner.

And since every dragon needs a bit of sparkle I wrapped a piece of sparkly multi-coloured ribbon around the squares, I found some brads in my stash that I adhered to the dragon rectangle and I placed some Pretty Pink Posh “Clear Droplets” in different sizes on the front of the card for a more interesting look.

To finish this card I put everything together: I adhered the dragon over the sparkle ribbon with one millimetre thick foam tape and I wrapped the banner around the left side of the Toned Tan paper, adhering it to the back, and adhering the squares to a white, linen textured card base with one millimetre thick foam tape.

And that’s it for today’s card! Hope you enjoyed and until the next card, have a creative day!
