Hi everyone, today I’m sharing with you another challenge project for The Paper Shelter Design Team and this weeks theme is “Things with Wings”. You can find all the details for the current challenge here!
For today’s project I choose a digital image from The Paper Shelter called “Enchanted Rockabilly”, isn’t she totally cute?:
Today I’m working in my art journal again, each panel in this journal is 14,5 cm x 20,5 cm in size. I started my project by printing the image onto alcohol marker friendly paper in a size that I felt would be nice to fit on one panel.
Now I can start the colouring process: I still feel I need a lot of practice on the hair part of each image but I’m slowly learning and it’s great to be able to colour hair in all colours! On today’s project I’m using my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers that you can find here: https://www.crafterscompanion.eu/art-and-colouring/spectrum-noir/illustrator.html

For hair I used: BT1, BT6, BT9, GG5 and EB8;
For skin I used: FS7, TN1 and TN2;
For the wings and the eyes I used: PV1, PV2 (and PV4 only on the eyes);
For yellow I picked: LY1, GY3, BO4 and EB8;
For red I picked: PP3, DR1, DR3 and DR7;
For lighter brown I picked: BG1, BG5 and BG7;
For darker brown I picked: MB2, GB8 and EB8;
Around the image I coloured using a SN Classique marker in GY05.
After the colouring is done I added back in some highlights using a white gel pen.
Than I can fussy cut the image leaving a small border. On the wings I added some Stickles in the colour “Star Dust” and on the glasses I added some Ranger Glossy Accents and left both to dry.

Now it’s time to work on my background. As mentioned before I created two panels from watercolour paper. On one panel I created the quote, using first a graphite pencil and when I was happy I went over the lines using a black Spectrum Noir ArtLiner pen, and on the other panel I applied some TCW “Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste” over a stencil (TCW382s) using a palette knife and set aside to dry.
When dry I applied several layers of Lindy’s Stamp Gang Spray in “Blazing Sun” and dried with my heat tool. I picked this colour because it matches the alcohol marker that I used around the coloured image exactly.
Than I added some additional splatters using a Coliro Pearl Color in “Peacock Blue” and I edged both panels using first Archival ink in “Cactus Flower” followed by “Coffee” to tone it down a bit.

Now I only have to adhere the coloured and fyssy cut image on the left hand page using one millimetre thick foam tape and I adhered both panels into my actual art journal using gel medium and a brush.
