The Paper Shelter Challenge #481

Hi everyone, today I’m sharing with you this weeks challenge project for The Paper Shelter Design Team and this weeks theme is “Back to School”. You can find all the details for the current challenge here!

Step 1:

For today’s project I choose a digital image from The Paper Shelter called “Bookworm Fairy” and I totally wanted to create a project with her in my art journal.

I started my project by printing this image onto alcohol marker friendly paper. Today I’m colouring with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers and a few of the SN Classique markers.

For skin I used: FS7, TN1, TN2, CR1 (for blush) and also the CR05 Classique marker; some IB05 Classique marker on her glasses and LG1 and LG3 for her eye shadow;

For hair I used: HB1, HB3, PL4, PL5 and also the HB05 Classique marker;

For grass: GG1, GG3 en GG5;

For rock: BG1, BG4 and BG7;

For the books I used: FS9 and MB2 for the pages, FS8, BO3, BO4 and PP4 for the rest;

For the green parts of her dress: LG1, LG3, LG5 and JG7;

For the teal parts of her dress and the ribbons of the books: BT1, BT4 and BT8;

For her wings I used: AP1 and the AP05 Classique marker with a bit of PV1;

Around the image I used a combination of PV1 and the PV05 Classique marker.

After the colouring is done I added back in some highlights using a white gel pen and I fussy cut the image. I also added some Stickles in the colour “Diamond” onto her wings using a brush (wash the brush afterwards, because these Stickles act like a glue) and lastly I added some Ranger Glossy Accents onto her glasses and let that dry.

Step 2:

As mentioned before, today I’m creating a project in my art journal, each panel in this journal is 14,5 cm x 20,5 cm in size. I cut these panels from Crafter’s Companion watercolour card and I will adhere them into my journal later on.

On the right hand panel I pencil in my quote that I want to use on today’s project, first with a graphite pencil and when I’m happy with the result I will go over the lines with a black Spectrum Noir ArtLiner Pen (which is waterproof).

On the left hand panel I applied some TCW Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste over a TCW stencil (this one is TCW823s) using a palette knife and let that dry! After the paste is dry I can add my colour to the background. For this I used a Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in the colour “Frenchy’s Pink Pouf”. I add this pigment powder to my background, focusing on the top half, using a fan brush. Next I spray the pigment with water which makes the colour run and dry the project with my heat tool when I’m happy with the result. This I repeat until the background looks the way I want it.

To create some added interest in my background I next created splatters using a Coliro Pearl Color in “Peacock Blue” using a brush and let that dry.

Step 3:

And to finish the project I only have to edge each panel using a green ink in combination with a foam applicator tool, and adhere the coloured and fussy cut image on top of the left hand page using one millimetre thick foam tape.Now I can adhere my project into the above mentioned art journal: for this I used gel medium and a brush. Wash the brush afterwards, the gel medium will act as a glue.
