Summer Birthday

1 Jul 2017

Hi everyone! Wow, this week has flown by, I was busy working my regular daytime job, participating in the Coffee Blog Hop, crafting and writing posts and arranging some other things (somewhere later on today there will be some very exciting news on my Facebook page, can’t tell you yet, so sorry!)

Back to the things at hand : today I have another card for you featuring a digital stamp: this might be a new addiction! I just couldn’t resist this cute image from The Paper Shelter, she is called “I wish I was there”. Since I haven’t had time yet to figure out if my printer will take other paper and what papers exactly to use, I printed this image on regular printer paper. I decided on die cutting part of a bigger image to create an interesting image for my card (using one of the dies in the My Favorite Things “Stitched Rectangle STAX” die set), like she is on a picture, taken during her summer vacation!

After printing the image I started colouring her with my Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils and the one Holbein Artists’ Colored Pencil. I used the following colours: skin: 132, 189, 126 and 137 (yes, that’s correct, I used “Blue Violet” to make her skin look like she is in a very summery area and she is tanned), pinks: Holbein OP429 and Faber Castell 129, yellow: 102 and 109, other colours: 271, 251, 172, 165, 276, 187, 177, 175, 147, 151 and 157.

Next step is to die cut a pink frame from some shimmery card stock from my stash: for this I used the middle sized die in the gorgeous “Scalloped Stitched Stacked Rectangle” die set from Kennedy Grace Creations, and I glued the coloured image on with liquid glue, spreading it very thinly to not get ugly spots.

Then I started working on the background: I die cut a rectangle from the background paper (also printed on regular printer paper) that comes in the kit when you buy the digital image and edged this panel with Distress Ink “Victorian Velvet”. I also die cut a square from some matching blue-green slightly textured card stock, edged that panel with Memento ink in the colour “Northern Pine” and adhered both pieces together with liquid glue spreading the glue with my finger to prevent splotches since this paper is very thin. After the glue was dry I splattered on some FineTec Pearlcolor in “Inka Gold” to make the background a bit more interesting to look at, and sat that panel aside to dry.

For my sentiment I choose one of the stamps in the Wild Rose Studio “Birthday Greetings” stamp set. I stamped the sentiment on some white card stock with Versafine “Onyx Black” ink and using my MISTI. I die cut a circle from this sentiment with one of the smaller dies in the My Favorite Things “Stitched Circle STAX” die set. And I also die cut a sightly larger circle from some matching lighter blue-green coloured card stock and edging with both “Tumbled Glass” and “Broken China” Distress Ink. Both circle sentiments are glued together using liquid glue.

And since I felt this card was still missing something I went through my ribbon stash and found this nice yellow ribbon. I wrapped it around my square panel twice and adhered to the back with regular tape, then I made a bow from a separated piece.

Now it’s time to put this card together: I adhered the square panel to a white linen textured card base with one millimetre thick foam tape. I also adhered the scalloped piece with the image on there with one millimetre thick foam tape and finally attached the circle sentiment with (yes, you guessed right) one millimetre thick foam tape.

And that’s it for today’s summery birthday card! It was my first time working with a The Paper Shelter image but I loved it! I wish everyone a creative weekend!
