Calender Month Series - September

27 Sep 2017

Hi everyone, today I have what is the ninth Calender Month page in this Series for you all: 2017 is really going fast! Are there projects you would like to finish this year? I would love to hear about them in the comments!

This months page is giving me al light turquoise and a bright pink colour to work with.

To get this page started I stamped cute “Dyanne “ from Whimsy Stamps onto some Strathmore 1557 paper with Versafine “Onyx Black “ ink. Next I coloured the image using my Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils, I used the following colours: 132, 189, 154, 155, 102, 185, 129, 123, 271, 272, 103, 187, 176 and 231, and I wanted to keep the image fairly light (because the page I’m working on this month is also a fairly light turquoise).

After I coloured the image I die cut around her using one of the square Crea-Nest-Lies XXL nesting dies, edged this square with Memento “London Fog “ ink and I went over some of the black lines from the image that faded a bit (because of the colouring on top), using a Copic Multiliner (0.1). I also used some Edding Gel Roller pen in Gold to accentuate some of the swirly dots around the image and I applied some Stickles in the colour “Diamond “ over the fairy’s wings using an old brush (that I washed out afterwards). Then I set this panel aside to dry.

Next it’s time to start working on the background: in my stash I found some matching dark turquoise card stock that I have been wanting to use for ages and now I finally created a project that matches it perfectly (the point with turquoise is that it’s often either too blue or too green to match, so I finally got lucky!). I free hand cut the base for my project, in my case the size is 15x19 cm. From this same card stock I also die cut a stitched square as a mat for my coloured image using one of the stitched square Crea-Nest-Lies XXL dies. I edged both of the dark turquoise pieces with Memento “Nautical Blue “ ink.

Then I went through my patterned paper stash to find an in between piece of paper that complimented the design I was going for: I was looking for something with pink, flowers and to not to strong of a colour so it would create a nice contrast with the dark turquoise card stock. And I found this gorgeous piece of card stock with the same image on both sides: one was bright and the other was the muted version, I choose to use the muted version. I die cut a piece of this patterned paper in the right size using the same set of nesting dies and edging this piece using Memento “Rose Bud “ ink.

So, now that I brought in some of the turquoise and the pink from the coloured image I went looking for some yellow/gold element to make this page even more interesting to look at: recently I bought some fun ribbon from The Ribbon Girl and one of them was this thin gold ribbon that went perfectly with this page. I put tow pieces of this ribbon on and taped the ribbon to the back of the big turquoise piece using regular tape and then adhered this big panel to this month’s calender page using one millimetre thick foam tape.

Next I adhered the pink flower patterned paper piece on the dark turquoise panel using one millimetre thick foam tape and also did the same with the coloured image and the mat (these I adhered together using liquid glue). I love to work in layers, this way I create dimension and I feel dimension makes a project more interesting to look at.

For my finishing touches I adhered some matching turquoise flat back rhinestones to the project using Ranger Medium Matte and I also adhered some sequins in different sizes and colours also using Ranger Medium Matte (I used Cartwright’s Sequins in “Satin Pink “ and “Satin Light Pink “ and some metallic champagne coloured sequins from my local craft store).

And that finishes today’s project: I must say, my calender project is getting fairly thick, about 7,5 cm (I think I will finish with less then 8 cm), but that doesn’t really bother me, I do really love going through all the different pages that I created!

The first eight pages of this calender can be found in the links below (in the posts for the months January and February I also explain more about what this series is about if you would like to know more about that):
