Rainbows & Unicorns

23 Jun 2018

Hi everyone, today I’m showing you my take on this month’s Special Extra Lindy’s Stamp Gang Challenge.

The theme is Rainbows & Unicorns and the challenge is to create any project using Lindy's products and a Rainbow of Colors (brights/pastels) OR Unicorns (or Unicorn colors).

I couldn’t choose so I combined both but I didn’t wanted my project to be too busy: that’s is why I decided on using the silhouette of a unicorn on a colourful background!

So, let’s get started!

Step 1:

Today I’m working in my Winsor & Newton Heavy Weight Wire-O Sketch Book and I start my project by cutting two panels in the size 14,5 x 20,5 cm (for each panel) from some water colour card stock.

Then I pencilled in the title that I wanted to use today: I wanted to express that every single person is special and unique so that’s why I choose this one for today’s art journal page! I first pencilled in the quote with a graphite pencil and then went over the lines using a black Faber Castell PITT Artist Pen (s).

Next I randomly stamped on both panels using Archival Ink in the colour “Jet Black“ and using a Darkroom Door stamp called “French Script“ for some fun interesting details in the background.

Step 2:

Now I’m going to apply some Finnabair “White Crackle“ Texture Paste over a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Unicorn“ (TCW738s) using a palette knife and I let that dry overnight (this way I achieve the best crackles). I also picked some of the star designs from the same stencil and added them on different places on both panels.

Step 3:

Then it’s time to ad my rainbow of colours to the project: for this I used different colours of Lindy’s products. I used LSG Magicals in the colours “Bonjour Butter“ and “Tears on my Pillow Tangerine“ and I used LSG Magical Shakers in the colours “Cuckoo Clock Cardinal“, “Cathedral Pines Green“, “Bavarian Blue“, “Polka Purple“ and “Magnolia Magenta Gold“.

I started with green because that’s the middle colour and I felt it was important to use a strong colour around to unicorn to make it nicely visible. I added some of the powder to my project, sprayed with water to make the colour run and dried with my heat tool when I liked the result. Then I started working to the right and later on to the left using all the colours of my rainbow. When I felt a colour was to light I added more or I came back to a colour when the next colour faded it out a little too much for my liking. Then I created splatters with the green Magical Shaker mixed with water over most of the page (except the text) using a brush.

Lastly I added some green in the top right hand corner of my right hand panel for some balance.

Step 4:

To create a bit more interest on my page I then splattered with some Coliro Pearl Colors by FineTec GmbH in the colour “Sterling Silver“ (for a contrasting colour) and I edged both panels using the same black ink that I used before and using a sponge applicator tool (to create a more defined edge).

And to finish my page I adhered both panels to my journal using The Crafter’s Workshop “Matte Gel Medium“ and a brush (wash the brush afterwards).

That’s it for today’s fun project, I wish you a creative day!
